Tracklist:

1. Light Pillars 07:28

Recording started: April 23, 2021

Title: named after an atmospheric optical phenomenon in which tiny ice crystals in the atmosphere cause vertical beams of light to appear above and/or below a light source.

Recording:
• to get the big detuned sound the main synth was played through a chorus effect with extreme parameters modulated by a couple of LFOs
• the bass layer is the same synth played at half speed through a low-pass filter and a bass amp
• the glitchy sounds are chopped Rhodes with occasional distortion and delay
• the “screaming” sound was achieved by running the same Rhodes layer through a resonant filter and automating its movement
• the track ends with a virtual harmonium.
• most layers were run through the same effect rack with a few delays, reverbs, filters, etc.

Field recordings:
• rain before a storm at home. (June 12, 2020)

2. Fog Wind Chorus 05:16

Recording started: December 29, 2020

Title: just a few words I thought describe the sound of this track.

Recording:
• the main drones (3 different parts) are recordings of a mass in a field detuned, stretched out, chopped and messed around using an autotune program called “Melodyne”. These recordings include human voices, an electric organ and wind.
• the buzzing sound in the background is a tuned water pump with an automated tremolo effect
• the arpeggiated bass was made with Jupiter 8
• the long drone bass is a Prophet 5 patch

Field recordings:
• plane flying over a forest in the Republic of Czechia. (July 3, 2020)
• birds singing before a storm in a forest in Lithuania. (June 20, 2020)

3. Purpuras 06:41

Recording started: August 5, 2020

Title: Tyrian purple in Lithuanian

Recording:
• originally, I recorded 3 different jams with an interesting sound I got by putting a noisy synth note in a sampler and running it through a bunch of effects. A few months later I found these jams, layered all of them on top of each other and used different filters and compression to make them all fit together
• the ending sound was created by modifying the original patch

Field recordings:
• strong storm, recorded in my backyard. (June 23, 2021)
• morse signal from an old shortwave radio. (May 22, 2021)

4. Rayurakure Village 03:40

Recording started: August 11, 2020

Title: named after a fictional village with a huge alien structure nearby.

Recording:
• the lead is just a synth with long attack and short release. At the end, a few reverbs are stacked to get that “opening” sound
• noisy textures and the huge bass wall were made only from a recorder sample I recorded at home
• the panning alien synth sounds were made in Reaktor

Field recordings:
• storm in a forest from a window. (June 20, 2020)

5. This Gorge, That World 04:37

Recording started: October 26, 2020

Title: inspired by a place I visited in the summer of 2020 in the Czech Republic that reminded me of a gorge.

Recording:
• the main chords were played on a simple Mini Moog patch
• the soft lead is also a quite simple Moog patch
• the two notes played around 1:33 are an OB-Xa factory preset
• the first drone with bird sounds was made with a subtractive synthesizer and a field recording from my window at night
• the second drone is pretty similar to the first one but it just plays lower notes with different sounds

Field recordings:
• train sounds recorded between mountains in the Czech Republic. (July 2, 2020)
• an announcement recorded in the same location. (July 2, 2020)

6. Freezing Fuel/Still 06:41

Recording started: March 12, 2021

Title: two titles describing the sound of two different parts of the track.

Recording:
• the second part “Still” was recorded before “Freezing Fuel”
• first part contains a few layers of a metallophone ran through a granular synth, delay effects and distortion that gets worse over time
• first part also has a couple layers of piano
• the wall of noise was created by running radio static through a resonator
• the barely audible synth in the background is actually a sampled harmonica
• the second part has a fuzzy combo organ with a lot of automated effects
• the lead is an ARP 2600 preset with tremolo
• the bass is a simple Prophet 5 patch
• the second part also has a glitchy guitar in the background
