About:

The third 3-letter Approaching Mountains album. An escape from the storm into a sunny field in a forest. Made out of recordings by me and friends. No synthesizers or software instruments were used. Mainly built out of samples of traditional Lithuanian instruments.

The idea for this album came shortly after my last album "Lux" was done. I wanted my next album to feel brighter, more natural, calmer and cleaner. To achieve an organic sound, I decided not to use any synthesizers or software instruments, even if they're sample-based. This was quite the challenge, and getting certain sounds without the ability to change very specific parameters is pretty tricky. Still, with the usage of a vast array of effects, it was possible.

This album uses a wide variety of recorded sounds but the main ones are lithuanian folk instruments. To record them I had to travel to a workshop where they are made. This happened before I had demos for a lot of the songs. That was probably a mistake, because I had to manually tweak the samples to fit in the tracks later or build around improvised parts. Though at the end, I think it made the final product even more natural sounding.

The album is named after ley lines, that are "straight alignments drawn between various historic structures and prominent landmarks". It's like a pseudoscience thing. But ley also means grassland, pasture or arable land used temporarily for hay. In Middle English it meant "an open field or meadow" and that came from the Old English word leah that meant "a clearing in the woods". I think this definition fits the album more.
